1. Komisar, Lucy. "Cafeteria Kickbacks." In These Times 03 Mar. 2009: n. pag. Web. 1 Dec 2010. <http://www.inthesetimes.com/article/4282/cafeteria_kickbacks/>.

I plan to use this article by including information on how Sodexo has passed a price hike in Rhode Island that increases the price of a half pint of milk to the point where it costs the families and schools over $100,000 per year. This cost is due to the fact that the schools could be buying the milk from a different provider company for 7-8 cents cheaper per half pint.  I also plan on including the fact that Management companies like Sodexo are providing food to 95% of corporations with food service, and 90% of universities. This article also provides insight on Sodexo’s rebate policy, which entails Sodexo signing a contract to run a client’s cafeteria. Then Sodexo buys supplies from big vendors like Coke and Tyson farms, and those vendors give Sodexo a rebate based on a percentage of sales. There are cases where Sodexo is getting rebates from the seller of the product that are not disclosed, which means they are essentially secret and that is a form of fraud, which is illegal in the United States.

2. Briseno, Elaine. "Cafeteria Workers Protest Wages." ABQJournal (2010): n. pag. Web. 1 Dec 2010. <http://www.abqjournal.com/west/262343271405riorancho08-26-10.htm>.

This article reports about the recent protesting from cafeteria workers in the Rio Rancho school district. They cafeteria workers are complaining about the low wages, and how after five years of work at the Rio Rancho public school one worker only receives $7.65 an hour, which is only 25 cents more than the federal minimum wage. A spokesperson for Sodexo says that the company offers competitive wages. Cafeteria workers in the area who do not work under contract with Sodexo make a lot more than those under Sodexo, about $5 per hour more. I plan to use this information to show how big corporations like Sodexo are a large cause of low wage work in food service, and how it is difficult to get work if you are not part of a corporation like Sodexo.

3. Aquino, Tanya. "Cafeteria Workers Take on Food Service Giant; Vote to Authorize Strike in 7 Universities, Hospitals, School Districts." SEIU.com (2010): n. pag. Web. 1 Dec 2010. <http://www.seiu.org/2010/09/cafeteria-workers-take-on-food-service-giant-vote-to-authorize-strike-in-7-universities-hospitals-sc.php>.

This article talks about how thousands of low wage cafeteria workers are ready to take on Sodexo. The cafeteria workers want to have wages that are fairer, and they want to be treated with respect. Cafeteria workers from universities across the country are joining together and voted to authorize a strike. Some hospital cafeteria workers are also participation in this strike. They workers are not receiving wages they desire, and aren’t being provided with affordable health care from Sodexo. I plan to use this information to help strengthen my argument that Sodexo is one of the leading problems in food service being low wage, and how if we changed their policies then we would stop seeing such low wages.

4. http://www.sodexo.com/group_en/activities/comprehensive-services-solutions.asp

This is the informational website created by sodexo that talks about what Sodexo does. Sodexo offers a variety of services that include more than just food service, they also design, build, and manage prisions. They also provide management services, business strategy, and motviation solutions. Sodexo says they provide quality daily life solutions, and that they treat every person they meet with the highest respect and sincerity. I will use this website to help inform people about Sodexo's point of view and what exactly they do. Many employees, especially in the food service portion of Sodexo might not agree with its statements considering they are treated so poorly, and are given such low wages and minimum health care.

5. http://www.unitehere.org/

UNITE HERE is a union that represents workers in the U.S. and Canadawho work in the hospitality, gaming, food service, manufacturing, textile, laundry, and airport industries. Through UNITE HERE members have been able to live middle class life in a usually low wage job. UNITE HERE also has a specific focus in the food service industry. Many food service employees in airports, school cafeterias, and federal cafeterias are part of UNITE HERE and have recieved benefits like better health care because they are part of the union. I will use this information to show how many of the the food service employees are in bad situations when they arent partof unions, and how badly they are treated to begin with.
